Coronation Street and Champions League face HUGE disruption - Here's why

CORONATION STREET fans will be shocked when their TV screens will go black and fuzzy during tonight’s crucial double bill. Here's why television screens are going blank this evening.

Many of those tuning into Coronation Street tonight will see a nationwide television blackout this evening.

While many may be left confused when screens go fuzzy, believing their TV's have gone bust.

But it is all part of a marketing plan by Samsung and those watching the ITV soap and Champions League over the weekend will be affected.

TV sets will be turned to fuzzy static by the electronics company

The firm will send screens across the UK buzzing, then pitch black across a variety of channels, as part of a new advert of high-end QLED TV technology.

Viewers need not panic as it won’t be during the actual episode or match.

Instead, it will be the commercial breaks that will be affected by the blackout.

Those worried about getting their Pat Phelan (played by Connor McIntyre) fix, or missing a goal in the final between Liverpool and Real Madrid should not to worry.

Speaking about the campaign, a spokesperson for Samsung told OK!: “Screens will buzz with static and interference before going black and entirely silent, leaving viewers staring into the void - or searching for their remote controls - for five long seconds.”

18 broadcasters have been enlisted to take part in the campaign, including Sky and Channel 4.

Huge LED screens in London’s Piccadilly Circus will also flash to black for the duration.

The reason behind the clever marketing advertisement is Samsung’s new offering, Ambient Technology, meaning TV owners can avoid unsightly black screens causing an eyesore in their living room when turned off.
